Maura Murnane (b. Dhahran Saudi Arabia 1983) employs the skills of digital photographic retouching as a complex visual medium akin to painting. From discarded consumer materials, she will finesse something both familiar and alien, slick and off, odd.

For this print she works with the World Wide Distributors Catalog, a physical precursor to sites like AliExpress, as a source of imagery. She evokes the ease on eyes and “pleasure-to-look” feeling of advertising, but removes all specificity and any subject. The images are desire without object, shopping without products.
