Bringing together acclaimed Black artists whose practices span Austin, Houston, New Orleans, San Antonio, Los Angeles, and beyond, Home Is Where the Art Is explores the ways home is created, carried, and transformed through migration, memory, identity, and cultural inheritance.
Featured artists include Adrian Armstrong, Colby Deal, JaTai Ree Hudson Jr., Charles Middleton III, and Isaac Rowry.

Through photography, painting, sculpture, and mixed media, the exhibition traces the relationships, environments, and cultural ecosystems that shape artistic practice. The works collectively reflect the lived geographies of Black cultural life in the American South—where movement between cities, states, and creative communities continuously reshapes how home is understood and expressed.

At a moment when Austin continues to evolve, Home Is Where the Art Is asks what it means to sustain cultural connection amid change. The exhibition foregrounds artists whose practices reflect both rootedness and mobility, offering a portrait of cultural life shaped by displacement, return, adaptation, and continuity.
